8th and Lenora is going to be home to one massive apartment tower.
Its 1-2 blocks from 2200 Westlake, Cosmopolitan and Enso. I was shocked today when I drove by the site after grabbing a cup of coffee. I took the picture below to show you how quickly they are knocking down the former Cosmopolitan Motors. They are in full demolition mode.
I’ve heard rumors about this site for well over 2 years. In fact, you probably remember our post in spring of 2010 speculating that it might be Seattle’s next condo project. At this point, the plans call for luxury apartments. According to the developer website:
2030 8th Avenue is a 355 unit luxury apartment tower consisting of 41 stories featuring panoramic views of Seattle’s downtown skyline, Lake Union, Puget Sound, and Elliot Bay…….The building will attract a target market of young professional singles and couples who are seeking a highly amenitized and elite apartment building within a vibrant urban environment.
One thing we know for sure is that the 41 story tower will deal another devastating blow to the condo owners at Cosmopolitan (see the building above just behind the demo, to the left of the machinery). Views towards the Space Needle and Queen Anne Hill will be completely blocked. With that said, I think owners have to take the good with the bad. You replace Needle views with city skyline views. In addition, restaurants, grocery stores and many other retailers follow new construction starts.
In my opinion, the benefits of a Class A, LEED Certified building in the neighborhood, far outweigh the downside. With Amazon’s new development just 2 blocks away, the city skyline is changing overnight. I’m excited about it. What are your thoughts?
This viewpoint is from the corner of 8th/Lenora – looking North. It shows how close the project will be t0 2200 and Enso.
