South Lake Union
South Lake Union is an up-and-coming neighborhood in Seattle. Named SLU because it is at the south tip of Lake Union, it is best described as a work in progress. New restaurants, lofts, a new park in the works and a brand new light rail system have put SLU on the map. It is home to REI, Whole Foods and Chandlers Cove.
There are a few common problems with this new neighborhood as well. Traffic is a major issue. Mercer street is heavily trafficked and the city has been slow to find a good alternative to relieve the congestive problem. In addition to the traffic, some of the highly discussed and anticipated residential towers have had their issues during our country’s long winded recession as well. With that being said, South Lake Union has a good foundation for growth and popularity. With its hand in the bio-tech and medical research it will continue to attract the best and the brightest. With Amazon and other notable companies investing in this unique neighborhood, I think all bets are for a success story at the South end of the lake.
